Paintings of Spain – The Court of the Myrtles, Alhambra, Granada I love Spain with its heat and contrasts, the intensity of its history and music, and particularly its Moorish architecture. Nowhere is this more impressive than in the gardens of the Alhambra. On my visit there in 2001 I was overwhelmed and just wandered about in a daze. But since then I have worked up paintings from sketches and memories, and the Court of the Myrtles with its reflections in the water has a peacefulness that is quite special. Paintings of Venice – The Fishmarket Just above the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal is an area of Venice that is a world within a world. The Fishmarket bustles away with activity in it’s splendid building, still a hub of traditional commerce facing the grand palaces opposite. The gondola crossing is in fact the ‘traghetto’, an unlikely ferry that dodges the vaporetti traffic passing and transports its passengers, usually standing upright.
