A watercolour house portrait can make a lovely gift for that special occasion, whether it be a birthday, anniversary or wedding present. Or perhaps you are moving house and would like a memento of your family home.
The images in this Gallery are watercolour paintings rather than illustrations. Some were commissioned, and many have been sold, but mostly they are just paintings of subjects that I love. Oxford and Venice feature regularly as both cities have such amazing views, and many other watercolours have resulted from trips abroad to Spain and Italy.
A glimpse into some my sketches done on the spot out of doors. Some are very studied, others quicker. These were not produced for sale, but done for the joy of sketching en plein air.
About me
I am a freelance artist, based in Great Malvern and specialising in Architectural Artist’s Impressions, House Portraits and inspirational watercolour painting. With more than 25 years’ experience as a professional painter I am also a Fellow of the Society of Architectural Illustrators (FSAI). In this age dominated by CGI and AI imagery, my watercolour work has become popular for its softness and originality, making it stand out from the competition. My client list over the years has included the National Trust, Oxford University Press, Vistry Group, Savills, Knight Frank, The Travel Chapter, and many other developers, architects and estate agents. Whilst I still use pencil and watercolour at a drawing board, I do employ SketchUp and use Photoshop to enhance my imagery and edit images when clients want to make changes and further develop their ideas. When painting house portraits I’m aware that they may be treasured for years in beautiful frames, so I always try to go the extra mile and use the highest quality paints and paper for a long lasting result.
