Paintings of Venice – Sunset over San Giorgio
I have a tube of watercolour paint called ‘Venetian red’ which together with yellow ochre suggests the richness of skies that sometimes glow over Venice at the end of the day. From the angle here observed you can see the island of San Giorgio, and further away the dome of the church of S.Maria della Salute. Being part of the sea, the lagoon is rarely calm enough to hold reflections, but I have included the ubiquitous channel markers with their lamps, and of course a late gondola.
