This is a sketch I did from a photograph, specifically for a demonstration evening at the Solihull Society of Arts. It was entitled ‘Holiday Sketching’ and I chose the view as I wanted to show how to simplify what looks like a complicated scene, and produce a lively sketch within a reasonable time.
The demo evening was in February, and by the time the sketch was finished I felt I had been back in Spain for an hour! It wasn’t intended to be a finished painting but an enjoyable experience and something that could be started on the spot and if necessary finished at home later on.
