“To take in the whole of Liddon Quad and Chapel, with the wide perspective and all the detail of the polychromatic brickwork was a big challenge, particularly to make the view natural to the eye and calm. But I wanted to capture the magnificent upward sweep of the Chapel and the feeling of the lifting of the spirit that it brings.”

Liddon Quad, Keble College, Oxford

This striking view of Liddon Quad will be a most familiar image to Keble College alumni. It was created by architect William Butterfield in the late nineteenth century who claimed to have ‘had a mission to give dignity to brick’. It is an inspired example of Victorian Gothic architecture.
Nearly a century and a half later Oxfordshire-based artist Chris Fothergill has painted the scene using traditional watercolour techniques, and has made available a limited edition of 500 fine art prints of the subject.

About the print:
Giclee printing is a modern technique enabling reproduction of great accuracy and clarity on to watercolour paper, giving a truly ‘original’ look to the print. The colours are light-fast but as with any painting should be kept away from direct sunlight. The prints are on 300gsm acid free museum watercolour paper, similar to the original painting.
